June 19th, 2008 Surf Forecast - 900AM EDT

Waves this morning at the Washout (900AM EDT), ANKLE-KNEE high with THIGH high sets and SEMI-CHOPPY conditions. Tide is outgoing.

Weak surface high pressure in control of the weather across South Carolina today. Not much surf is expected over the next couple of days. The only shot we have for larger wave heights continues to be this developing upper level short wave trough the models are picking up on out in the Mid-West. The models move it across South Carolina 66-72 hours out. Typical prefrontal southerly winds should pick up and develop some light chop and windswell in the KNEE-THIGH range, but how strong the south winds will be depends on the strength of the pressure gradient assocaited with it. To be honest, currently it is not looking that good. The upper level short wave trough and associated surface low lifts northeastwards quickly late Sunday into Monday. Looks as if the upper level ridge of high pressure in control of the Central Atlantic will be trying to slide westwards, back towards the eastcoast sometime next week. I will update tomorrow if the models change.

BOTTOM LINE: WEAK ONSHORE FLOW TODAY, SOME LIGHT CHOP IN THE KNEE-THIGH RANGE, SOUTHERLY WINDS PICK UP TOMORROW NIGHT, KNEE-THIGH HIGH WIND CHOP AND WINDSWELL FOR SATURDAY, APPROACHING LOW FROM THE WEST MAY BUMP UP THE WAVE HEIGHTS, KEEP A EYE ON THE SURFACE WINDS PRE-FRONTAL.
