June 25th, 2008 Surf Forecast - 845AM EDT

Waves this morning at the Washout (845AM EDT), ANKLE-KNEE with SEMI-GLASSY conditions. Some improvement is expected on the incoming tide with weak conditions.

Widespread southerly flow is expected over the next 180 hours as a broad area of high pressure slowly centers just north of Bermuda. A nice long southeast wind fetch has developed across the Northern Caribbean and Eastern Bahamas and is expected to increase in strength as the surface high pressure sets up just offshore. Southerly windswell can be expected today in the KNEE-THIGH range with a little groundswell starting to show up over the next couple of days. This SE swell should fill in by Friday with WAIST-STOMACH high sets and local wind chop. Surface winds look to remain overall southerly through early next week chopping this up a bit, so mornings look to be best. Multiple troughs will be trying to make their way to the coast, but will have trouble as the dominant surface high pressure maintains control over Bermuda. This will put us along a convergence zone and showers and thunderstorms can be expected across the area this weekend and into early next week. So keep a close eye on the conditions for quickly changing wind conditions. Overall, weather and wave models are showing our first sizable swell in a couple months. But, I will have to see it to believe it!

BOTTOM LINE: SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SETTLES OVER BERMUDA THIS WEEKEND, SOUTH WINDSWELL AND CHOP IN THE THIGH RANGE TODAY INTO TOMORROW, SOUTHERLY FLOW CONTINUES OVER THE NEXT 5-6 DAYS, BUILDING SE GROUNDSWELL IN THE THIGH-WAIST RANGE LATE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY, KEEP A EYE ON THE BUOYS.
