Waves this morning at the Washout (900AM EDT), THIGH-WAIST high with STOMACH-CHEST high peaks and CHOPPY conditions. Tide is incoming and wave heights are expected to increase with choppy SW conditions. SE swell has filled in, but SW winds have been stronger than I expected. Unfortunately these SW winds have chopped up the swell and developed some MIX SWELL/WINDSWELL across the South Carolina coast. We will still have sizable surf this morning and afternoon, but conditions will be choppy and dumpy. Keep a eye on the developing showers and thunderstorms, which could help the wave form. Southerly flow will continue this weekend with an approaching upper level short wave trough from the west. As this trough moves east, southerly winds will increase keeping plenty of surf around. Actually, global models are showing a very nice weather pattern for southerly windswell/groundswell development over the next 7-10 days. BOTTOM LINE: CHOPPED UP SE GROUNDSWELL/MIX SWELL DROPPING OFF WITH DEVELOPING SW WINDSWELL LATER THIS WEEKEND, KEEP A EYE ON THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY AND AFTERNOON SHOWERS FOR POSSIBLY IMPROVING CONDITIONS.
