Waves this morning at the Washout (930AM EDT), ANKLE-KNEE high with SEMI-CHOPPY conditions and a rare larger set. Tide is incoming and only slight improvement is expected this afternoon. Waves have dropped off over the last couple of days as FAY moved across Florida this weekend and winds have weakened. A little medium period swell in the water, but looking pretty weak. Southerly chop and windswell will be developing on top of the swell as the surface winds slowly pick up in the afternoons. A weak surface high pressure has built in over the region allowing southerly winds. As the trough of low pressure associated with the remanence of FAY slowly lifts northeastwards across Georgia, winds will slowly pick up out of the south in the 10kts range allowing for some larger chop in the KNEE-THIGH range to develop. Tides will be pretty important this week with the largest waves associated with the tide push. Overall, it looks to run in the THIGH range with larger peaks at top spots. Conditions will be best in the mornings, but lack size. The upper level weather pattern over the next few days will be very disorganized and does not look to help the wave size much. A couple of tropical waves in the Atlantic worth watching, but none of them look to impact South Carolina this week unless they dramaticlly improve in organization. A low pressure in the Central Caribbean looks the most impressive, but out of our swell window. Also, a surface high pressure will be building along the eastcoast late week, potentially setting up a NE winds event this weekend. BOTTOM LINE: BACK TO SMALL WIND CHOP WINDSWELL WITH SMALL MEDIUM PERIOD SWELL IN THE KNEE-THIGH WITH LARGER PEAKS RIGHT BEFORE HIGH TIDE AT THE RIGHT SPOTS.
