August 29th, 2008 Surf Forecast - 1130AM EDT

Waves this morning at the Washout (1130AM EDT), KNEE-THIGH with WAIST high sets and SEMI-GLASSY conditions. Tide is outgoing.

Weak medium-long period SE swell trickling in with SEMI-GLASSY conditions. Light winds out of the SW will continue for the next couple of hours, before increasing in strength this afternoon allowing for less favorable conditions. TS HANNA has formed and is currently located at 21.3N 62.7W with max sustained winds at 50mph. Overall, TS HANNA has not looked all that impressive, but with weakening southwesterly shear over the next couple of days, things could change quickly. Also, current satellite imagery is showing some relatively deep convection which needs to be monitored for quickly changing conditions. TS HANNA will be producing some solid swell, although the wind fetch is small. Depending on the development over the next few days, larger groundswell can be expected early next week. A dominant upper level ridge of high pressure and an associated surface high pressure will be building across the area late this weekend into early next week. This high pressure will change the steering currents for TS HANNA. This interaction between TS HANNA and the building high pressure that is causing the sharp change in direction Sunday into Monday. Also, some upper level interaction with TS GUSTAV can be expected as these two storms begin to interact with the ridge of high pressure. Most models seem to have a good handle on the development of the high pressure across the east coast. As TS HANNA changes direction, the E-SE wind fetch looks to remain in place, continuing to develop some solid swell and sending it in our direction. The size of the swell is hard to forecast, but it will be ridable and local winds look to be somewhat favorable. Keep a close eye on the storm for update and forecast tracks.

BOTTOM LINE: SMALL SE SWELL IN THE WATER, WATCH TS HANNA FOR DEVELOPMENT, GROUNDSWELL ON ITS WAY IN THE CHEST RANGE FOR LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY, NE WINDS WILL PUT SOME CHOP ON IT, BUT SHOULD BE DECENT CONDITIONS.
