May 12th, 2008 Surf Forecast - 845AM EDT

Waves this morning at the Washout (845AM EDT), ANKLE-KNEE high with a occasional THIGH high set and SEMI-GLASSY conditions. Tide is incoming and only slight improvement is expected with strong westerly winds.

Waves have dropped off overnight as post frontal westerlies picked up in the 15-20kts range. Westerly winds are expected over the next 24-36 hours with a more northerly component later today. As the surface high pressure builds across the region, winds will continue to veer more northerly and eventually becoming NE briefly as the axis of the high pressure sets up just offshore. This brief NE wind fetch will be enhanced by the leftovers of the upper level low offshore. Some NE chop in the THIGH-WAIST range can be expected on Wednesday as winds quickly veer southerly late Wednesday into Thursday. Southerly windswell and chop in the CHEST range can be expected for Thursday into Friday. A very active weather pattern will allow multiple upper level troughs to advect across the region later in the workweek and into the weekend. Keep an eye on these systems for quickly changing conditions.

BOTTOM LINE: SOUTH WINDSWELL DROPS OFF WITH STRONG WESTERLY WINDS, NE WINDS START UP LATE TOMORROW BUILDING SOME BRIEF NE WINDSWELL AND CHOP, SOUTHERLY WINDS LATE WORKWEEK WITH BUILDING S WINDSWELL AND CHOP THURS INTO FRI.
