June 17th, 2008 Surf Forecast - 930AM EDT

Waves this morning at the Washout (930AM EDT), ANKLE-KNEE high with a rare THIGH high set and SEMI-CHOPPY conditions. Tide is outgoing.

A couple of different wind switches are expected over the next 4 or 5 days. SW winds will bump up a little SW CHOP and windswell today as the cold front approaches from the NW. The front is expected to cross the area later tonight switching the winds NW briefly before becoming more NE early tomorrow as the trough moves offshore and the a weak surface high pressure builds across the area. Winds will return southerly late Wednesday into Thursday. Another upper level short wave trough will be developing across the Mississippi Valley and advecting eastwards this weekend. Some models are bumping the surf up as the SW winds increase as the trough approaches on Saturday. I would keep a close eye on it throughout the week. It is looking more like some SW chop in the WAIST range, but depending on how the front sets up, we might have a shot at some better conditions Saturday into Sunday.

BOTTOM LINE: SOME BUILDING SW CHOP TODAY IN THE THIGH RANGE, A LARGER PEAK TONIGHT? SMALL GLASSY SESSION TOMORROW MORNING, NE WIND CHOP/ MIXSWELL TOMORROW, SW CHOP FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK, A CHANCE FOR BUILDING SURF THIS WEEKEND AS A TROUGH MOVES OUR DIRECTION.
