A broad area of high pressure continues to build offshore as a deep upper level long wave trough is expected to slowly move across the Great Lakes region over the next 72 hours. Southerly surface flow can be expected as the high pressure offshore and the upper level long wave trough begin to interact. A weak upper level short wave trough will be developing across the southeast portion of the US over the next few days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region today as widespread moisture and instability is already in place. As the upper level short wave trough develops across the southeast this weekend, the interaction between widespread moisture and instability and the trough should initiate widespread convection, some of which could be severe. Current models have the cold front being entrained within the upper level short wave trough which is expected to move across the area Saturday into Sunday.
