The upper level long wave trough located over the Mid-Atlantic States is continuing to lift northeastwards and will move out into the Atlantic Ocean today into tonight. An upper level ridge of high pressure will be building across the region in the wake of the upper level long wave trough over the next 48 hours. An associated surface high pressure will elongate and stretch across much of the eastern seaboard during this same time period. As this broad and elongated surface high centers over the Carolinas, northerly-northeasterly winds will pick up as the surface high pressure and eastwards moving trough of low pressure out in the Atlantic Ocean, interact and develop a moderate pressure gradient. Once the surface high pressure takes full control of the western Atlantic Ocean, winds will veer southerly and will be setting up for the approach of an upper level short wave trough later in the week. Expect mostly sunny conditions with northwesterly winds today veering more northerly tomorrow. A couple of upper level troughs advect across the region later in the week and weekend as the upper level weather pattern remains active.
