A weak upper level ridge of high pressure continues to move eastwards across the eastern portion of the US. A broad surface high pressure stretches from the northern Bahamas, north across the Mid-Altlantic States and into the Northeast. This surface high pressure will quickly move eastwards out into the Western Atlantic Ocean as an upper level long wave trough develops across the Mid-West. As this upper level long wave trough digs southwards reaching the Tennessee Valley then lift northwards allowing for a trailing frontal boundary and upper level short wave trough to advect across South Carolina Friday. Depending on how this upper level short wave trough develops as it moves towards Folly Beach, SC, southerly winds are expected to pick up becoming southwesterly as the frontal boundary moves over the area on Friday into Saturday. Expect mostly sunny skies today with veering winds. Cloud cover will increase tonight into tomorrow as the frontal boundary associated with the upper level short wave trough begins to impact South Carolina. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are can be expected late Thursday with numerious showers and thunderstorms on Friday with southwesterly winds as the frontal boundary moves across the area.
